9-Step Confidence Boosting Plan to Crush Anxiety

Read this if you're ready to ditch self-doubt, silence your inner critic, and step into your power.

Do you keep track of vital daily metrics, such as how much coffee you drank, your sleep patterns, or the calories you burned?

Taking care of your physical health is great—keep it up! But have you ever considered how important it is to pay attention to your emotions, too? It's crazy how we often neglect our feelings until they become a big issue. This happens a lot with anxiety. Sometimes people don’t realize they need to do something about it until it’s become stifling.

Apps and smart devices make it easy to track physical activity and diet, but understanding emotions requires a different approach. Journaling and mindfulness practices can help us "tune in" to our feelings, identify triggers, and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

We have something to add to that: tracking your confidence. Monitoring your confidence levels can make a real difference in overcoming anxiety in the long run.

Confidence is personal—even if you look calm on the outside, you can be feeling very different inside—and it’s impacted by different factors, such as perceptions of other people’s expectations. Still, it’s easy to recognize when you feel it—it's like knowing if you're hungry or full.

In those moments when you have free time and don’t know what to do, ask yourself, "How confident am I feeling right now?" Your response will give you a starting point, no matter what it is. It can also gently guide you toward a deeper understanding of who you are.

When you're feeling confident, make the most of it and find fulfilling ways to spend your time. Follow a passion, connect with incredible people, take some well-deserved alone time, or choose anything that will help you cultivate your soul.

When your confidence is low, it can be hard to have a good time. The best way to fix that? Identify the source of your insecurity and confront it directly. It's easier said than done, but it's a much better starting point than criticizing yourself for holding back.

The good news is you can do many things to feel more confident in life. The list below is filled with little empowerment tools, and using even one of them today  can make a positive difference. Remember: You have the power to take control of your confidence and well-being.

1) Be well prepared for success (and ideally, failures too). You got this!

- Set realistic goals, break them down into smaller steps, and create a plan of action.

- Anticipate challenges and develop strategies to overcome them.

2) Adopt a sufficiency mindset:

- Recognize that you have enough resources, skills, and support to achieve your goals—or highlight what you do have and consider that your starting point.

- Focus on making a positive impact with what you have, rather than constantly striving for more.

- Appreciate the abundance in your life and express gratitude for what you have.

- Collaborate with others, share your knowledge and skills, and seek mutually beneficial partnerships.

3) Commit to consistent growth. Aim for a little improvement every day, even if it's just 3% better than yesterday. This could mean:

- Stepping outside your comfort zone to try something new.

- Reflecting on your experiences and identifying areas for improvement.

4) Fuel the suitable fires:

- Listen to your inner voice that encourages you to grow and strive for your best.

- Cultivate gratitude and appreciate the good things in your life.

- Celebrate your progress and acknowledge your achievements.

- Set healthy boundaries and say "no" when necessary to protect your time and energy.

5) Don't fuel the wrong fires:

- Avoid comparing yourself to others and focus on your own journey.

- Let go of past regrets and anxieties about the future.

- Believe in your abilities and trust that you can achieve your goals.

- Acknowledge and process negative emotions in a healthy way.

- Avoid self-destructive behaviors and find help if needed.

6) Do a basic well-being check:

- Your health: Make sure you get enough sleep, eat nutritious food, and exercise regularly.

- Key relationships: Spend quality time with loved ones, nurture friendships, and healthily resolve conflicts.

- Your professional life: Set clear goals, seek growth opportunities, and maintain a positive attitude at work.

- Your financial life: Create a budget, save for the future, and avoid unnecessary debt.

7) Have an empowering morning routine that wakes up your body and mind.

- Start your day with a healthy breakfast, light exercise, or a few minutes of meditation.

- Set your intentions for the day and visualize yourself achieving your goals.

8) Track your confidence-boosting habits daily or weekly. Consistency is critical, especially when it’s related to mental and physical health.

- Use a journal, app, or habit tracker to monitor your emotions and stay motivated. For instance, jot down how you feel after completing a workout, practicing a presentation, or engaging in a social activity.

- Assign a number to your confidence level each day (e.g., 1–10, with 1 being very low and 10 being very high). Track this consistently to see trends over time.

- Celebrate your wins, no matter how small, and learn from setbacks.

9) Get out of your head and live in the now. Accept what's happening; stop resisting or denying it.

- Practice mindfulness and focus on the present moment.

- Let go of worries about the past or future and appreciate what you have now.
