Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating today. We hope you take time this weekend to nurture yourself.
What Is Self-Care?
You probably already do things to take care of your physical health (exercising, flossing, choosing healthy foods most of the time). Self-care is a personal program you create to ensure you’re nourishing yourself mentally and emotionally.
What Self-Care Is Not?
This is not about quick fixes or occasionally indulging in a massage or retail therapy. It’s a consistent and ongoing practice that prevents stress rather than just reacting to it.
TL/DR: Self-care is not mystical, complicated, selfish, or only for people with lots of money and free time. It is for everyone.
Sol Bites: 3 Ways to Practice Self-Care
1. Have social interactions:
Being around other people is essential for your emotional well-being. Make sure you’re regularly engaging in social activities you love, whether it’s a quiet coffee with a best friend or big celebrations with lots of friends and family.
2. Participate in fun but challenging activities:
Pickleball, tennis, building/making things—any activity that gives you a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.
3. Create space in your life:
Leave room in your calendar for downtime. Don’t fill every moment with busy work or tasks. Give yourself whitespace (or breaks) to spur creativity or simply recharge.
Is your self-care routine basically just wine and Netflix? You deserve an upgrade! (And maybe some actual self-improvement.)
