The concept of manifestation—the idea that people can make things happen in the universe through setting intentions, journaling, and vision boards—gained popularity over the years thanks to books like The Secret and The Law of Attraction. While many people who have met personal goals swear by those books, they are widely regarded by most psychologists and scientists as pseudoscience.

However, dismissing the concept of manifestation altogether or labeling it as nonsense might be an overreaction. Why? Because if it’s impossible to manifest positive outcomes in our lives, then the effectiveness of therapy, wellness strategies, and other tools we use are also questionable.
The truth is, if you believe you can transform your abstract thoughts into tangible realities there’s no reason to stop—and if you’re curious about manifestation, there are good reasons to try it out.
TL/DR: Is There Any Science Behind Manifestation?
There is no proof that a person can manifest something through the law of attraction—where their belief alone is enough to achieve their desired goal. However, studies have shown that if a person genuinely believes they can accomplish a goal, they will be motivated to put in the necessary effort to accomplish it.
Takeaway: Positive self-belief can lead to action (and elicit reactions from others), which ultimately helps you reach your desired results.

Research also shows that self-fulfilling prophecies are real, meaning that a person’s positive or negative expectations about a situation end up being validated.
Takeaway: If you expect to hit your goals, then the probability of actually attaining them goes up.

Studies by Dr. Barbara Fredrickson show that positive emotions enhance creative thinking abilities. Meanwhile, research by Dr. Sonja Lyubomirsky discovered that happiness is the precursor to achievement, not the other way around.
Takeaway: People who are consistently positive attract more opportunities, foster better relationships, and effortlessly materialize their aspirations. Think about it: We all naturally gravitate to people who radiate positivity and optimism, and being around negative people isn’t usually inspiring.

Sol Bites: 3-Step Guide to Manifesting
Given the research, here is the right way to manifest, according to science:

Establish a clear intention.
Most people spend time focusing on what they don’t want (like not being sick, poor, or single) rather than focusing on what they do want (to be healthy, have abundance, and be in a healthy relationship). Spend some time focusing on getting clarity on your goals. Mindful meditation is a great tool to ground you in the present with an eye on what you want rather than ruminating about the past or being stuck worrying about the future.
Ask questions.
You are more likely to believe in things you have positive expectations about and things that make you feel more positive. As a result, you'll be more likely to manifest them. So if there is something that you want to have happen, ask yourself:
🌟 Does the goal feel right for me? (Sometimes we’re swayed by something or someone influencing us.)
🤔 Will the goal hurt me or others?
Visualize.
Once you get clarity and validate your goals, your next step is to envision them happening—in other words, fantasize or daydream about the experience you want to have or the goal you want to reach. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and imagine a scene from the future where you have succeeded. Be as specific and descriptive as possible.
