✨ Words of Wisdom
I originally started keeping a journal when I was a teenager, but it was only an occasional habit and I turned to it to vent about high school drama more than anything. Using a journal to help support my emotional and mental well-being is a practice I started during the pandemic. I began by cobbling together some prompts on healing that I found through Google searches and quickly discovered the benefits of journaling therapy.
Studies have proven that expressive writing can help us improve mental clarity, regulate emotions, resolve conflicts, and enhance overall quality of life. Of course, simply writing about and reliving upsetting events without truly processing their significance can be detrimental to your emotional health, so it’s important to remember that journaling isn’t a cure-all—or even for everyone. If journaling isn’t helpful to you, try exploring alternative methods for improving your wellbeing.
TL/DR: 100 Days of Feeling My Feelings
When I started my new practice, I journaled for 100 days straight. Once I got all my hang-ups off my chest, got real about my feelings, and put things into context, I felt a mental relief that I’d never experienced before. Going through the process made it painfully obvious that dwelling on my negative thoughts and emotions—rather than expressing them—would never be beneficial. With this newfound understanding, I could find a sense of closure every time I wrote something down.
Sol Bites: 6 Journaling Prompts
Here are the prompts that I used to guide my journaling journey:
1) What message is my anxiety, anger, sadness, etc, trying to convey to me?
Instead of perceiving negative emotions as foes to be eliminated, consider them allies that help you recognize unfulfilled desires and needs.
2) What actions would I take if I possessed unwavering confidence for one hour?
This thought experiment can assist in clarifying your values, which can serve as strong motivators to aid in overcoming fear, anxiety, or feeling overwhelmed.
3) What worries and thought patterns contribute to this emotion?
Although you may not have direct control over your emotions, you always have control over where you direct your attention and what you choose to focus on.
4) What habits or exercises can I adopt to prevent the occurrence of this emotion, rather than just managing it when it arises?
Authentic self-care is proactive, not reactive.
5) What are some things I can do each day to practice confidence? This means doing something significant despite fear, anxiety, or another negative emotion.
Remember: Confidence does not mean the absence of fear. It means having the courage to act according to your values despite your fears.
6) In which aspects of my life do I need to establish better boundaries?
Frequently, painful emotions stem from an inability to establish and enforce healthy boundaries.

Consider an emotional journaling ritual this new year - examine emotional undercurrents that may silently drain health and joy without you even realizing.
Discover a quiet cocoon, pen poised. Play soft background music if it helps open intuitive flow. Pose this thoughtful prompt from Sol TV Creator Kristen Noelle: "Who or what am I really allergic to?"
Through uncensored writing, let once-repressed emotions find their voice. Listen without needing to fix or solve yet. See what shifts by compassionately examining then releasing that stuck energy no longer serving current happiness.
Words of Wisdom
Rather than being your thoughts and emotions, be the awareness behind them.
